4-H Trip to Graham County



Tuesday, June 30; 8am to 5pm
Hike at Joyce Kilmer, ride along the Cherohala Skyway, and Swim at Cheoah Point
Open to all 4-H families, transportation provided
4-H’ers will travel to Graham County for a fun-filled day outdoors.  4-H’ers will visit Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, an old-growth hardwood forest.  The hike is an easy two-mile loop featuring yellow poplars that are over 400 years old.  4-H’ers will get to see a portion of the Cherohala Skyway, a National Scenic Byway that reaches over 5,400 feet in elevation.  Afterwards, we will have lunch and swim at Cheoah Point, a man-made beach on the shores of Lake Santeetlah.  Participants need to bring a towel, swim clothes, sunscreen, water shoes, camera, snacks, and refillable water bottle. Weaving Class at The Plaid Sheep Yarn Shop in Canton, NC


Spaces are Limited,  Participants must register and pay to sure their spot in the class
5 Classes which go through Friday, March 13– Friday, April 17 (No Class Good Friday April 3)
Cost: $10
Instructor, Johnita Heil will teach 4-H’ers the basics of weaving and the mechanics of a loom at her shop, The Plaid Sheep Yarn Shop in Canton.  Over the five week class youth participants will have the opportunity to weave their own pot holder and table runner.  The cost is $10 and spaces are limited.  Please call 828-456-3575 to register. 

Teen Council Readers Are Leaders



Thursday, March 19 from 3:30 to 5pm at Extension Center
Global Leadership Summit participants received the next book in the Teen Council Readers Are Leaders program, Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes Are High by Patterson, Greeny, McMillan and Switzler.  The book focuses on tools to prepare for high-stakes situations and how to make it safe to talk about anything. 
Youth Council members that participated in the Global Leadership Summit are invited to participate the book review that will be held on Thursday, March 19 from 3:30 to 5pm at the Extension Center in the small conference room.
