4-H Farm to Fork Day Camp

During the 2015 Farm to Fork Day Camp, 4-Hers 5 to 13 year olds are invited to come experience a glimpse of Cherokee heritage here in the Appalachian mountains.  4-H’ers will visit local farms to learn about farming local foods and agricultural enterprises.  The camp is sponsored by generous support from Haywood County Farm Bureau.  The cost is $35 per youth participant; which includes materials, lunches, snacks, and a camper t-shirt.  Please call the Extension Center to register at 456-3575.

Dr. Seuss Cherokee Day


Thursday, July 14
Free and Registration Required in advance
4-H’ers will get to watch a Dr. Seuss’s classic film “Horton Hears a Who” in theaters’ at the Cherokee Phoenix Theater.  Then we will have lunch and fun activities at the Cherokee Island.  4-H’ers will have story time to hear several other Dr. Seuss stories and a chance to write their own children’s book.  4-H’ers will need to pack their own lunch and swim clothes if they wish to play in the creek.  Youth participants are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, picnic bag lunch, water clothes and beach towel.  Please call 828-456-3575 to sign up in advance or for more information. 

Pink Beds and Cradle of Forestry Educational Field Trip



Tuesday, July 12 8am to 5pm 
Pick-up and Drop-off at Extension Center
Haywood 4-H’ers are welcome to come to the Cradle of Forestry right in our back yard.  Youth participants will get to explore the first forestry school in America established by the Biltmore Estate, get a glimpse of life in the 1900s, and visit the Forestry Discovery Center.  After touring the Cradle of Forestry we will have a picnic at Pink Beds and go on a short hike.  4-H’ers will need to bring a refillable water bottle, bag lunch, walking shoes, and sunscreen.  The event is free.  4-H’ers need to call and register in advance and be ready to leave by 8:30am.  Please call the Extension Center at 456-3575 to sign up in advance.
