You Be the Chef – 4-H Chocolatiers



Monday, February 10 from 3:30 to 5pm at Extension Office
Deadline to register: Wednesday, February 5
Cost: $5 (includes materials and chocolates for participants)
With Saint Valentine’s Day approaching 4-Hers will learn how to make delectable chocolate creations.  During the You Be the Chef workshop,
4-H’ers will learn how to temper chocolates, use candy molds, and add flavorings and fillings to make a variety of chocolates.  We will also look at the process of how to make chocolate an enterprise.  4-H’ers will learn about small business
principles and how products are created, tested, priced, and promoted.  Each participant will be able to
construct their own packaging and have chocolates to take with them for Valentines Day.  Please call the Extension Office by Wednesday, February 5 to sign-up at 456-3575. 

Bulls Eye Shooting Sports Club Kick-Off

If you have ever been interested in the Bulls Eye Shooting Sports Club this is your opportunity to find out more. This information session is for new and current 4-H’ers.  Club leaders will share information about the shooting sports program, information about the 4-H program, review the calendar, and expectations for club members.

Registration will run from 4:45pm to 6pm at the lodge.  Discounted rates are available to 4-Hers and 4-H families.  The cost is $19.00 if you have your own equipment and $32.00 if you need to rent equipment from the lodge.  Please sign-up by calling the Extension Center at 456-3575 by Friday, January 31.


4-H Scholarships



County Deadline: Friday, January 17
Attention all 4-Hers who are high school seniors, in North Carolina 4-H there are over 30 4-H college scholarships available for 4-Hers. Please look through the NC 4-H
scholarship guide to find which scholarships you are eligible for based upon your area of study and where you intend to study.  Scholarship applications are due to the Haywood County 4-H Office by January 17.  If you need a scholarship packet, please call the Extension Center at 456-3575.

Volunteer Leaders Conference



Friday, January 31 through Sunday, February 3

The 2014 NC 4-H Volunteer Leaders' Conference will be January 31 through Sunday February 3 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel and Conference Center in Research Triangle Park.  This is an opportunity for volunteers across North Carolina to connect and participate in workshops and seminars designed especially for 4-H volunteers and agents to create positive learning experiences for young people across the state.  Annually, more than 350 conference participants gain skills and knowledge to help make the best better!  Pre-conference sessions will be offered on Friday, January 31.  These two-hour sessions provide opportunities for more intense topic investigation for focused learning.  Workshops will include everything from preparing healthy snacks, managing behavior, leather crafting, and electric project work - there's sure to be something for everyone!  Sunday morning wraps-up the conference with brunch and a great speaker.
