We are so proud of the Haywood County 4-Hers who took the time and put forth the effort to do a presentation or perform at this year's West District Activity Day in Brevard. Congratulations to Jesse Evans, Mark Kirkpatrick, Steven Kirkpatrick, Sally Dixon, Patty Popular and Greg Popular. These 4-Hers prepared a presentation, practiced and then presented in front of a panel of judges on topics they chose from science and technology to public speaking to health and fitness.
Haywood County would also like to congratulate Kyle, Keegan and Connor Lucky-Smith on a great performance of John Henry during the Talent Show Competition. Out of 15 different participants, the Lucky-Smith boys were one of only two groups who were asked to perform again during the awards ceremony for everyone.
At the end of the day these 4-Hers represented Haywood County well bringing home 4 gold medals and 1 bronze in various presentation categories.
Being able to present oneself in front of others teaches a variety of Life Skills from organization to interviewing for a job to building confidence and leadership and many more.

Adventure Club Events
The adventure club has announced its summer events and they are going to be great times in the great outdoors (For ages 10 & up, sorry little ones).
These are the planned events so far (with more to come):
- Going hiking the Great Smoky National Park in the Balsam Mountain area on Saturday, July 19th. We are doing a 2 1/2 mile hike down the flat creek trail to flat creek falls that will last around 4 1/2 hours including drive time. We will be simming in the creek, looking for wildflowers, nature photography, looking for animal tracks and signs of wildlife, and more.
- Taking a fun leisurely hike up Shinning Creek in Pisgah National Forest on Friday, August 1st. We will be learning about the plants and animals in the area, swimming in the creek, bird watching, working on Map & Compass skills, and just have fun exploring the area. How far we hike will depend on how far we want to go on this hike.
- Hiking to Twin Falls in the Pisgah National Forest near Brevard on Saturday, August 16th. We'll be beating the heat by a cold mountain stream with the mist of a beautiful waterfall cooling us down. The hike is 4.1 miles total with an hour drive so this outing will take about 6 hours out of the day but........................ it will be worth it I promise.

What You MUST Bring! (please be careful not to forget these important items)
- A lunch (and any snacks that you think you need)
- A large water bottle (a liter or more)
- A backpack to carry your stuff in
- Shoes to hike in AND shoes for playing in the water (hiking uphill in wet shoes is NOT fun.....blisters ugh)
- A whistle (every person must bring one)
- A non-cotton shirt to hike in (polyester/polypropelene/anything quick dry) OR a rain jacket
Things that you CAN bring! (I will be bringing most of these items)
- Camera
- Bathing suit
- Field Guides
- Fishing Gear
- GPS
- Compass
- A grocery bag to help pick up trash we find on the way
- Bug Spray
- Toilet Paper
- Sun Screen
- First Aid Kit (I have one that will work for everyone)

- Hiking Stick

The New Super Club
This is a cool project club that covers it all!!! Super Club allows you to cover many of the cool topics that 4-H has to offer in one great club!
We have leaders in the following topics that can teach you all you want to know;
- Awesome science experiments that will simply amaze you.
- Raising, caring for, and showing Turkeys, Chickens, & Ducks (Baby chicks will be supplied).
- Guitar and Mandolin lessons (you must have the instrument).
- Raising,caring for, and showing Pure Bred Rabbits (limited number of cute rabbits to be supplied).
- We will also help you with any project that 4-H has to offer which includes the following topics:
Aerospace, Agriculture, Arts And Crafts, Beef, Bicycle, Cat, Child Development, Citizenship, Communications, Computer, Consumer, Dairy Cattle, Dairy Goat, Dog, Electric, Embryology, Entomology, Entrepreneurship, Experiential Learning, Exploring 4-H, Robotics, Exploring Farm Animals, Financial, Fishing, Forestry, Gardening, Geospatial, Health and Fitness, Horse, Latino Cultural Arts, Leadership, Meat Goat, Microwave, Nutrition, Outdoor Adventures, Pets, Photography, Poultry, Science Discovery, Service Learning, Sewing, Sheep, Small Engines, Swine, Theater Arts, Veterinary Science, Visual Arts, Wildlife, Woodworking,

The first Super Club meeting will be June 24th at 6:30 at the Extension Office. All youth ages 5-19 are welcome to come and any adults that want to volunteer to help.
