4-H Farm to Fork Day Camp

Wednesday and Thursday August 12 & August 13

Youth ages 5 to 13

During the 2015 Farm to Fork Day Camp, 4-Hers 5 to 13 year olds are invited to come experience our Appalachian heritage.  4-H’ers will visit local farms to learn about farming diversification and entrepreneurship.  Youth will make their miniature farms in small terrariums.  The camp is sponsored by generous support from Haywood County Farm Bureau.  The cost is $25 which includes materials and lunches.  Please call the Extension Center to register at 456-3575.

Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) Camp

Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17 from 10am to 4pm

Canton Middle School

Cost: $75

Open to rising fourth through the eighth graders are invited to participate in the week-long Junior Appalachian Musician (JAM) Day Camp held at Canton Middle School.  Youth can learn how to play the fiddle, guitar or banjo; as well as participate in workshops learning about Appalachian dances, songs, stories, and traditions.  The camp will be held from 10am to 4pm and the cost is $75.  Please call the Haywood County Arts Council for more information or to sign-up at 828-452-0593. Some partial scholarships are available based on financial need.

4-H Trip to Graham County

Tuesday, June 30; 8am to 5pm

Hike at Joyce Kilmer, ride along the Cherohala Skyway, and Swim at Cheoah Point

Open to all 4-H families, transportation provided

4-H’ers will travel to Graham County for a fun-filled day outdoors.  4-H’ers will visit Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, an old-growth hardwood forest.  The hike is an easy two-mile loop featuring yellow poplars that are over 400 years old.  4-H’ers will get to see a portion of the Cherohala Skyway, a National Scenic Byway that reaches over 5,400 feet in elevation.  Afterwards, we will have lunch and swim at Cheoah Point, a man-made beach on the shores of Lake Santeetlah.  Participants need to bring a towel, swim clothes, sunscreen, water shoes, camera, snacks, and refillable water bottle.
