4-H Electric Congress

North Carolina 4-H Electric Congress is an educational event designed to recognize excellence in the Electric Program throughout the state.  Electric Congress travels from region to region of the state, thus allowing for a variety of programming opportunities for everyone.  This year Electric Congress will be held in Cullowhee, North Carolina at Western Carolina University.  4-H members participate in workshops, meet their Power Company Representatives, and interact with other electric winners.  The four delegates from Haywood County are: Benjamin Carpenter, Kaitlin Frazier, Rachel Warren, Holly Warren, Stacey Frazier and Coley Bartholomew.  Participants are chosen based upon involvement in electric project area and leadership over county electric workshop. 

Great Smoky Mountains National Park Day at Cataloochee

Cataloochee National Park

Thursday, July 10 from 10am to 4pm (Weather Permitting)

Open to all 4-H families

4-H’ers and families are invited to come to Cataloochee National Park, a community preserved much as it was when it became a National Park during the 1920s.  During the day, 4-Hers will take a hike up to the Whitehead homestead, eat watermelon, and pitch horseshoes or corn hole, play in the creek and enjoy a beautiful day as Appalachian kids would have over 100 years ago.  4-Hers are encouraged to bring their cameras and take photos to enter into the Haywood County Fair this fall.  4-Hers will view wildlife including deer, elk, and turkey; as well as homes and barn structures from the time period.  Participants need to bring bag lunch, towel, swim clothes, sunscreen, water shoes, camera, snacks, and refillable water bottle. Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) Camp

Monday, July 7 through Friday, July 11 from 10am to 4pm

Canton Middle School

Cost: $75

Open to rising fourth through the eighth graders are invited to participate in the week long Junior Appalachian Musician (JAM ) Day Camp held at Haywood Community College.  Youth can learn how to play the fiddle, guitar or banjo; as well as participate in workshops learning about Appalachian dances, songs, stories, and traditions.  The camp will be held from 10am to 4pm and the cost is $75.  Please call the Haywood County Arts Council for more information or to sign-up at 828-452-0593.
