Only one half of one percent of 4-Hers are accepted into the North Carolina 4-H Honor Club. The organization was organized in 1931 by Mr. L.R. Harrill as a way to develop a statewide 4-H service organization. Today, the NC 4-H Honor Club has almost 3,000 members from across the state and nation. Membership in the North Carolina 4-H Honor Club is bestowed upon those 4-H'ers who have exhibited outstanding 4-H citizenship and leadership throughout their 4-H career. An Honor Club member continues to provide leadership and service to the total 4-H program throughout life. You must have completed three or more years of 4-H club work and shall be at least 16 years of age and not more than 20 years of age on January 1 of the year of application. Applications are due December 15 to the Extension Center.
Project records highlight what a 4-Her has learned and done in a specific project area for a period of 12 months. The books are judged in age categories of: 9-10, 11-12, 13-15, and 16-18. They need to be submitted to the Haywood County 4-H office December 15. The top county winners in each of the curriculum areas are then submitted to Raleigh for the district competition.

Great opportunity to learn about properly using table manners, navigating a formal place setting, and using your utensils correctly. Scholarship interviewers and one day even your employer may want to see you in social situations to observe how you conduct yourself, particularly if your job you want requires a certain standard of conduct with clients and superiors. Your familiarity and comfort with proper etiquette could open many doors of opportunity! The Etiquette Dinner will be held at the Balsam Mountain Inn on Monday, October 17, 24 at 6pm. The cost is $20 and 4-Hers will need to dress business casual. Please call the Extension Center at 456-3575 to sign-up.
No heroes or damsels in distress here! As 4-Hers’ sprout wings and fly away off to college next fall; it is important to know what kind of equipment you need to have on hand to deal with a basic car repair, how to change a tire, and maintenance and upkeep involved with your vehicle. Waynesville Tire will have a mechanic on hand to show youth practical steps involved with being proactive and empowered to take care of your first vehicle.
