4-H Christmas In November Awards Banquet



4-H Christmas
Tuesday, November 25 from 6pm to 8:30pm
Volunteer Leaders, youth leaders, and 4-Her’s will be recognized for their hard work and dedication at the Annual Awards Banquet.  The Sew Cool 4-H club members and all 4-H’ers are invited to participate in the 4-H Fashion Revue and show off the garments they have constructed this year or wearable accessories they have crocheted or knitted.  Three 4-H’ers: Grace Sawyer, Johanna Carpenter, and Ashlyn Clark along with club leader, Cris Ammons participated in the Make it With Wool Competition in Cabarrus County in September. Ashlyn Clark placed third in the teen division, Cris Ammons placed second, and Grace Sawyer and Johanna Carpenter received honorable mention.  Please submit garments or wearable accessory by Friday, November 21 for judging and recognition at the awards night.  All 4-H’ers participating in the fashion revue will receive $20 cloverbucks certificate to use at a 4-H event of their choice.  Please call the Extension Center at 456-3575 to sign-up. 

To celebrate this year in 4-H we will have a PowerPoint with all the pictures from program activities.  Everyone who attends can get into the holiday spirit and is invited to sing Christmas carols. The Extension office will provide sliced ham, rolls, and sweet tea. Please bring your favorite potluck dish.  Also this year for the awards banquet we will have a people’s choice award for desserts.  If you would like to enter please bring 50 bite-sized servings to enter.  The winner will receive a $25 gift card to the Chocolate Bear in Waynesville.   

This year we will also be having a silent auction fundraiser.  Several merchants, restaurants, and regional theaters have donated items and it's the perfect time to buy auction items for Christmas gifts. This will be a fun night for the whole family!

All club volunteer leaders are invited to the annual leaders appreciation dinner and meeting.  This will be a great opportunity to fellowship, learn about your clubs and individual 4-Her’s accomplishments, look at the upcoming 2015 calendar together, and celebrate all of your efforts and achievements.  There will be a special surprise for volunteer leaders.  Please contact the Extension Center at 456-3575 to sign-up by Wednesday, November 12

Readers are Leaders Youth Council Project

Book Review: Monday, January 27 from 3:30 to 5pm
All 4-H’ers who attended the Global Leadership Summit will receive the book and audio companion for Crucial Conversations by Patterson, Grenny, McMillan, and Switzler and are invited to participate in the next Readers Are Leaders.  These authors lay out the tools for talking when the stakes are high.  The authors attribute most human problems to how people behave when others disagree with them, in emotional high-stake circumstances.   4-H’ers will discuss the book and have a pizza party.  Please call the Extension Office in advance to sign-up at 456-3575.  The book review will be held on Friday, November 7 from 4 to 6pm in the small conference room.

Annual 4-H Etiquette Dinner



4-H Etiquette Dinner at Sid’s On Main; 117 Main St, Canton, NC 28716

Cost: $20
Deadline to Register:  Wednesday, October 15
4-H’ers will learn how to fold napkins, set a formal place setting, and basic skills to be a waiter or waitress.  The annual etiquette dinner is also a great opportunity for 4-H’ers to learn table manners.  4-H’ers are encouraged to ask questions throughout the meal and learn the etiquette of our three course meal: soup, entrĂ©e and dessert.  The experience is designed to give youth more confidence at formal dining situations.  The owner of Sid’s On Main, Paige will also give her perspective of what it’s like to own a food business.  The cost is $20 and 4-Hers need to dress business casual.   Parents are welcome to attend too and there will be a table reserved for parents.  Please call the Extension Center at 456-3575 to sign-up by Wednesday, October 15.
