4-H Awards Night

Thursday, November 4 from 6pm to 8:30pm Volunteer Leaders, youth leaders, and 4-Her’s will be recognized for their hard work and dedication at the Annual Awards Banquet.
To help combat hunger in youth across North Carolina, 4-H has designed a Hunger to Help Imitative. In order to help folks here in Haywood County 4-Her’s can bring 2 canned items to donate to the Manna Food Bank Collection Drive at Activity night.

Please RSVP by calling Erin at 456-3575 by October 29. Haywood County Cooperative Extension will provide a meat entree. Please bring a pot luck dish of your choice.

Bullseye Shooting Sports Club Won 50 State Medals

The Haywood County 4-H Bullseye Shooting Sports club brought home fifty state medals at the 2010 North Carolina State 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament, held at the Millstone 4-H Camp Center in Ellerbe, North Carolina. Haywood County had three junior teams and two senior teams compete this year and starting preparing for the competition back in January.

Of these fifty medals received by Haywood County 4-Hers, 9 of these medals were best overall in state tournament categories. These awards are judged competitively and comparatively by individuals competing in each class including: archery, air rifle, air pistol, black powder, and recurve archery. In the senior division, Same Hayes received first place in state for recurve archery and second place for air pistol. Rebecca Warren received third in state for black powder. Rachel Warren received third place for air rifle. Dillon Sarka took home first place for air pistol. In the junior division, Holly Warren received first place for air rifle. Logan Smathers received second place for air rifle and recurve archery, as well as third place for black powder.

Thanksgiving Day Luminary Workshop

October 21 from 3:30 to 4:30pm
For the Thanksgiving Season, 4-Hers will sketch out tin punch patters on tin cans and learn how to tin punch. There is a limit of 12 youth, ages 8 to 14 years old for the workshop and cost of $2 includes materials. Workshop will be held at Extension office from 3:30 to 4:30pm on Thursday, October 21. Christmas Wreath Making Workshop

December 4 from 1pm to 3pm
Youth ages 12-18 are invited to participate in holiday wreath workshop from 1 to 3pm on Saturday December 4, with instruction from Haywood County Master Gardeners. Limit - 6 youth for workshop and the cost is $15 which includes all materials. Please call Erin at the Extension Office to reserve your space 456-3575.
